Carleen Anderson just added!

We're thrilled to announce that Carleen Anderson will headline Bristol International Jazz & Blues Festival on Saturday, March 7.

One of the most powerful vocalists today, 2013 Jazz FM UK Vocalist
of the Year Carleen Anderson
has been a favourite of audiences and fellow artists alike for over
two decades. The American soul singer counts Boy George and Amy Winehouse amongst her fans. Amy Winehouse once said: “For live performances, you absolutely have to see Carleen Anderson – at least three times in your life!”.

Carleen was born in Houston, Texas, and grew up listening to gospel music at the Pentecostal church where her grandparents raised her from an infant. Soul music training was from a trio of legends, none other than James Brown, her Godfather, Bobby Byrd, her step-dad and her mother, singer Vicki Anderson.

Anderson’s career has seen collaborations with Johnny Cash, Chrissie Hynde, Bryan Ferry and Paul Weller and of course, Brand New Heavies. Anderson’s own band, Young Disciples, were picked up by Gilles Peterson and Norman Jay for the Talkin’ Loud able, with their single ‘Apparently Nothing’ becoming one of the biggest Acid Jazz hits of the era.

Expect fiery gospel influence and the most powerful voice you’ll hear all year.
