Try something new in 2018…

We'd like to take a moment to wish you all a happy 2018! We hope you get to try something new this year and as the Bristol Jazz and Blues Festival swings into its sixth year, we offer up an opportunity to do just that.

Why not stretch yourself with one of our Masterclasses with musicians at the top of their game? Learn to dance at our NEW! Cuban Dance Party with free salsa lesson? Or simply come and PARTY at Incognito feat. Carleen Anderson (pictured).

If you can't wait that long then don't miss our Jazz Dames 3 fundraising event this January which will celebrate the life, music, composition and spirit of Ms Peggy Lee…

We have something for everyone...

NEW! This year we bring you Cuban Dance Party feat: Dockside All-Stars.

Colston Hall becomes a hot, humid Havana nightclub for one night only featuring the star-studded Dockside All-Stars playing a selection of classic Salsa, Mambo and Cha-Cha. The 17-piece orchestra features Latin legends such as Roberto Pla, Yelfris Valdés, Mitchel Padron, Elpidio Algeria and many others in a show that also includes Stellans’ Salsa Souls, a live Salsa dance troupe performing, on stage, alongside the band. Included is a FREE Salsa dance class before the show!

Reminisce...

From the group that brought you ‘Sounds For Spies and Private Eyes’ comes a joyous frolic through the jazz and funk-laden world of TV themes and incidental music from the 60’s to the 80’s in Cult Fiction Live! Sounds from the Small Screen.

Or join us for Cream '68 - a celebration of Clapton, Bruce and Baker. Cream were one of the 1960’s greatest and most celebrated supergroups who performed at Colston Hall in their heyday. This show will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Cream’s legendary ‘farewell’ concert from the Albert Hall in 1968.

Plus, this year we present a 16-piece ensemble featuring an all-star cast of leading jazz improvisers who will tackle Jimi Hendrix’s 1968 album Electric Ladyland (pictured).

Learn from the Best

We are delighted that many of the superb performers who are visiting the festival will now also share their talents and expertise in our Masterclasses. These include a guitar masterclass with festival favourite Matt Schofield, a blues masterclass with Chris Corcoran and 'Funk 101' with the legend that is Pee Wee Ellis. Plus, we have a fascinating workshop in understanding breathing rhythms with Asaf Sirkis and the Godfather of UK Latin percussion Roberto Pla offers up a percussion workshop.
